I was naïve, and I mean up to recently, that we had reached a point in Canadian society where we were getting to some real, fundamental questions. We were addressing economic inequalities, ideas like fair trade, participatory economics, urban agriculture and energy… felt predominant, or at least I heard about it a lot and it seemed to echo in the media to a certain level.
Those enlighted days, it seems, are gone and we are right back where we started : intolerance, religious frictions, nationalism, military fetichism (and not the right kind of military fetichism) are everywhere. Baird and Harper have won this round already, I hear more and more about conflicts, less and less about creative, spiritual (not religious) freedom and economic equality.
Every opportunity to speak about what divides us as humans is emphasized and that only serves to increase these divisions. Let’s make this clear. I am a spiritual person but I would never endorse any religion. Religion is an organized, powerfull elite whose purpose in time has been to maintain itself in that powerful position. So was the state (and they often go very well together)
So, Baird, Harper… read “God and the State”
The rest of us, please join me again in the necessary sin of the day :
“Hi, my name is Ian and I am an atheist… Fuck god and Smash the state.”
Now that we have blasphemy and sedition covered, feel free to go and have sex just for the pleasure of it, kill the Hockey gods by stopping your drinking and if you happen to stumble upon a used version of Burroughs’ Naked Lunch, read it while listening to Slayer. It will get you in hell.
For those who are free, sinfully yours
